The CBT course is split into 5 modules which must
be satisfactorily completed in order.
You must first be able to read a standard number plate at a distance of 20.5 metres. We then have a classroom session starting with the aims of the CBT day, followed by a discussion about the legal requirements, and pro's and cons for helmets and motorcycle clothing.
In this session we will get you familiar with all the machine switches and controls. We will cover some basic machine checks, teach you how to use the stands, wheel the bike around and then teach you how to start and stop the engine.
This session covers pulling away and stopping, observations, gear
changing, slow control exercises, emergency stops and simulated left
and right turns.
This is a classroom session which takes around one hour, and covers legalities and safety issues of riding on the road. You will
be asked questions throughout the lesson, most of the answers can be
found in the Highway Code!
Assuming that you have met the required standard in the classroom and car park sessions, we will head out on the road for a legal minimum period of 2 hours. In that time we will cover as many road and traffic situations as possible. You will be in radio contact with the instructor at all times.
At the end of the course, assuming that you have met the required standard (safe for you and everyone else), your instructor will issue you with a CBT certificate (DL196). This is a legal document and should be kept safe. If we feel that you would benefit from further training, you will be asked to return another day (usually free of charge depending on the reasons for being asked to come back).
Please note that the maximum legal ratio of students to instructors is
4:1 in the off road areas, and 2:1 for Module E.
