CBT myths.
The CBT course is not necessarily a one day course; it takes 'as long as it takes'.
Even with the best instructors, good students,
and the best will in the world, some people simply need more training. We are finding however, that our students are much better
prepared to complete the course in one day if they have taken advantage of our Free introduction lesson.
All of the CBT modules (and lessons within the modules) are set by the DSA and are
legal requirements.
If any of these lessons are missed, or you do not complete 2 hours on the road we will be unable to issue a certificate - to do so would be breaking the law. Now you can see why it is not necessarily a one day course!
The CBT is Compulsory Basic Training, it is NOT A TEST! It is an assessment of your riding ability and road craft throughout the day whilst under instruction.
There is no test at the end, and you cannot fail your CBT. You can, however, be asked to come back to continue training another day if you have not demonstrated the required level of safety.
Finally, you can do the CBT on an automatic bike, and still ride a geared bike and go straight out on the road.
This is a loop-hole in the law, intended for those who take their CBT at the age of 16 and upgrade to a 125cc when they turn 17. It could potentially mean that you have not recieved any training on how to use the gears!
If you complete the CBT with Abbey Rider Training on an automatic at the age of 16 and later decide to upgrade to a geared bike,
we will give you another FREE introduction on a geared bike. (after your 17th birthday)
