There are 2 practical tests to gain a full motorcycle licence. The tests are the same for DAS (Direct Access) and A2 (Restricted Licence). The bike you take the test on dictates the type of licence gained.
  • The 'Module 1' test takes place in an enclosed off road area at the Test Centre.
  • The 'Module 2' test is an on-road test that lasts for around 40 minutes while the examiner follows you and gives directions over a radio. During this ride your route will take in different types of roads, road conditions, and may include set exercises such as a 'hill start' and an 'angle start'.

You may have heard a number of news stories and scare-mongering in the press regarding the 'Module 1' test. As with most stories covered by the media, these stories have been sensationalised and exaggerated, however there is some truth in that there have been incidents involving riders that have not been properly trained. Not all schools have the space required to train for these maneouvres properly - WE DO!

Module 1 Training @ ART

The new test is more demanding than the old test, but the fact of the matter is this:
Riders that have been properly trained and prepared for the new test have no reason to fear it any more than the old test!

Module 1 Training @ ART

We have the expertise, and the space to train you properly.

You will be given ample oppurtunity to practice exactly the same maneouvres you will experience on test.

As you can see in this video, "Sue" is on a 125cc automatic; the test is the same regardless of motorcycle.
(The speed requirements are slower for moped tests).

Be aware, if you sit the tests on an automatic, you will only be allowed to ride automatics. If you pass your tests on a geared bike, you will be licenced to ride either.
